Peter Obi destroyed APGA, resist him, Anambra tells electorate

By Adewumi Omoboade

The Anambra State Government has told the electorate to resist voting for Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 general election.

The state government made the call on its official X account, managed by the office of the New Media to Governor Charles Soludo, on Monday.

The government asserted that Obi destroyed the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the state while President Bola Tinubu defended it.

In a graphic branding Obi as a betrayal, it wrote, “A betrayal alert for Ndi APGA. Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him. In 2015, while President Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed the opposition to bury us. Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home, resist the NDC.

Recall, in 2025, Soludo said that he was backing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. He said his support is grounded in a 22-year friendship and the President’s bold economic reforms. Speaking with journalists after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Soludo said his support remained firm despite not being a member of the All Progressives Congress.

In the same vein, the Governor’s party, APGA, endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 general elections in July.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, who disclosed this, said the absence of the party’s presidential candidate’s name on the Independent National Electoral Commission nomination portal should not be interpreted as a failure to comply with electoral guidelines.

Opara said the party’s leadership had already resolved to back Tinubu’s re-election bid after what he described as extensive consultations within its ranks.

He added that the party’s National Executive Committee reached the decision, concluding that supporting the president’s second-term ambition was in the overall interest of the country. Recently, Obi and Soludo disagreed over the financial obligations associated with projects implemented during Obi’s tenure as Anambra governor.

Responding to the issues, Obi said he had remained silent in recent days because he was mourning his late elder brother and friend, Chief Okey Ezeibe, adding that he was not interested in returning to the governorship, even if the Constitution were amended.

He rejected the characterisation of the facilities as “debt owed by Peter Obi”, saying they were primarily World Bank and International Fund for Agricultural Development programmes negotiated by the Federal Government and accessed by participating states through subsidiary arrangements.

He said the figures being cited should be separated into the amount approved, the amount actually drawn and the balance outstanding when he left office.

Obi further maintained that he did not personally approach any financial institution to borrow funds or issue a bond on behalf of the state.

Meanwhile, neither Obi nor any member of his team has reacted to the state government’s recent claim of betrayal as of the time of filing this report.
