GPMI Urges Swift Rescue of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren, Calls for National Unity Against Insecurity

The Global Peace Movement International (GPMI) has called for intensified efforts to secure the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomosho, Oyo State, urging authorities to deploy every available strategy to bring the victims home safely.

The group expressed concern over the continued captivity of the victims, who have reportedly spent more than two weeks in the hands of their abductors, describing the situation as a matter of urgent national importance.

In a statement issued by its President, Dr. Mike Uyi, the organization affirmed confidence in Nigeria's security architecture and commended ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and security agencies to combat insecurity across the country.

According to him, the rescue of the abducted children and teachers should remain a top priority, given the trauma and uncertainty being experienced by the victims and their families.

"The abduction of innocent schoolchildren and their teachers is an attack on the future of our nation. Every lawful and strategic option should be explored to ensure their safe and unconditional release," he stated.

While acknowledging the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Armed Forces and intelligence agencies, Dr. Uyi urged relevant authorities to strengthen ongoing rescue operations and leverage modern technology, intelligence gathering, and strategic partnerships to resolve the crisis.

The peace advocacy group also cautioned against politicizing the incident, insisting that insecurity remains a collective challenge that requires national unity rather than blame and division.

GPMI called on Nigerians, community leaders, religious organizations, civil society groups, and the media to unite in condemning kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent criminality.

The organization further advocated a review and effective implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative to enhance the security of educational institutions across the country.

According to Dr. Uyi, schools must remain safe environments for learning and development and should not become targets for criminal elements seeking to spread fear and instability.

He also urged governments at all levels to deepen investments in surveillance technology, intelligence gathering, border security, and community-based security measures to address emerging threats.

The GPMI president stressed the need for Nigeria to strengthen international collaboration in tackling kidnapping and violent extremism, noting that criminal groups have increasingly exploited forests and remote communities as operational bases.

He maintained that Nigerians must collectively support efforts aimed at reclaiming every part of the country from criminal networks and restoring lasting peace and security.

The organization expressed solidarity with the families of the abducted children and teachers and offered prayers for the safe return of the victims, while reaffirming its commitment to promoting peace, national unity, and the protection of human dignity.
