The African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has held a one-day workshop in Abuja to commemorate the International Anti-Corruption Day, bringing together young people from across the country to deepen awareness on transparency and accountability.
The event, which took place at Rockview Royal Hotel, created a platform for discussions on the growing role of youth in strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
Executive Director of ANEEJ, Most Reverend David Ugolor, said the day serves as a reminder of how corruption undermines development, weakens public trust and slows economic progress. He noted that the conversation is particularly important for Nigeria as the country works to consolidate ongoing governance reforms.
A representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Godwin Basheru, encouraged young Nigerians to take active interest in governance, ask the right questions and use lawful channels to demand accountability from leaders.
Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, also addressed participants and urged them to reject bribery in all forms. He said integrity must guide their choices if the nation is to experience meaningful change.
The workshop forms part of ANEEJ’s ongoing efforts to empower young people with knowledge and tools to promote transparency in their communities and public institutions.
