Edo NUJ Chairman, Festus Alenkhe, Inducted Into Benin Recreation Club

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has been formally screened and admitted into the prestigious Benin Recreation Club in Benin City.

The screening exercise was presided over by Venerable Nosayaba Edokpolor, who asked Comrade Alenkhe to take a bow in recognition of his contributions to society. Venerable Edokpolor described him as a man of impeccable character, noting that his admission would further strengthen the club’s reputation.

He explained that the Benin Recreation Club, established in 1933, was founded to cater to the recreational needs of its members and their families. He emphasised that discipline remains a core value of the club, warning that any member found engaging in illicit acts would face sanctions.

In his response, Comrade Alenkhe said his decision to join the club was driven by his desire to cultivate healthy relaxation after daily professional engagements. He noted that recreation is essential, especially in today’s challenging economic climate, adding that a sound mind contributes to personal and societal development.

He pledged to support the continuous growth of the club and committed to upholding its constitution and values.

The secretary of the club, Comrade Marcus McAine Okoebor, described the Benin Recreation Club as one of Nigeria’s foremost social institutions dedicated to promoting the well-being of its members.
