Egor Local Government (LG) emerged as the standout team on the opening weekend of the Benin Unity Cup, which kicked off on Friday. Egor  defeated Uhunmwode LG 5–1 in the opening match, watched by the sponsor, Senator Neda Imasuen, and other dignitaries at the Crescent FC Sports Complex, Irhirhi, Benin City.

In another tightly contested fixture, Orhiomwon LG and Oredo 2 played out a 1–1 draw. Meanwhile, Oredo 1 were awarded a walkover victory after Ovia South-West LG failed to show up for their scheduled game.

Senator Neda Imasuen commended the teams’ performances and urged them to abide by the rules of the competition.

“Football has become a global industry and Edo State possesses untapped potential capable of reaching elite levels. I implore the teams to adhere strictly to the rules of the game.” He added.

The competition continues Monday, 24th November, 2025.
