Lagos Police Nab Notorious ‘One Chance’ Kingpin, Seize Minibus, Weapons in Crackdown

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a notorious ‘one chance’ gang leader along with two accomplices, ending a reign of violent robberies terrorizing commuters across the city.

The suspects — Bode Oludayisin (53), Michael Sowunmi (22), and David Olawaye (20) — were arrested by Ikeja Division officers during a routine patrol along Agege Motor Road after a distress call from a victim being robbed inside the gang’s operational minibus.

Police investigations identified Oludayisin as a wanted leader of a syndicate linked to multiple ‘one chance’ attacks in Lagos.

Recovered items include an unregistered commercial minibus used in the crimes, a stolen Tecno Spark 20 smartphone, an axe, concrete interlock bricks, heavy stones believed to have been used in past assaults, and a broken bottle—all registered as exhibits.

Findings show the gang’s method involved using commercial minibuses, known locally as Korope, to pose as regular transporters. They would pick up unsuspecting passengers from busy areas like Oshodi and then divert them to secluded locations where they would be robbed using threats and violence.

The Lagos Police’s Special Squad 1 has taken over the case to track down other fleeing gang members and dismantle the criminal network.

Commending the swift response, Police Commissioner CP Olohundare Jimoh urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid unmarked or suspicious vehicles, and report any criminal activity immediately.

Emergency contact lines are: 08063299264, 09168631003.
