A yet-to-be-identified operative of the Nigerian Army narrowly escaped death over the weekend after he reportedly fell into a ravaging flood in Edo state.

It was gathered that the operative who is attached to Army School, Nicoho, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, was being swept away by the flood when he attempted to cross a drainage close to Igbira camp in Auchi.

A witness who simply identified himself as Justice, narrated how the soldier was swept away by the flood before he was rescued by sympathizers.

“As the soldier attempted to jump across the drainage, he lost his balance and fell into the flooded drainage.

“The ravaging flood arising from a heavy downpour, swept him away. However, the timely intervention of passers-by saved the soldier.

“The passersby and other residents in the area quickly ran after him on the road.

“They placed a barricade and laid wait at the other end of the drainage and rescued the embattled soldier alive,” he said.
