The youths and Elders of Iyekogba community have protested the killing of a community leader Frank Osamede Osagie allegedly orchestrated by the Okaghele of Ikpebor community, Martins Agbotaen.
The protesters who marched to the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists bearing different placards, decried the failure of relevant security agencies, including the police and DSS, to arrest those responsible for the brutal killing.
Giving an account of events that led to the killing, a spokesman for Iyekogba, Bright Omo Asuen said the elders and youths had gathered on the 4th of June, 2025 to resolve a boundary dispute between Evborhun and Ikpebor communities.
He noted that after hours of waiting for the meeting to commence, Martins Agbotaen eventually arrived accompanied by some thugs who unleashed mayhem on those gathered killing Osagie on the spot, with four others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
He alleged that despite various petitions logged at the State CID, Zone 5 Police Headquarters and the office of the Directorate of Security Services (DSS), no arrest has been made.
The community spokesman therefore appealed to the security agencies to promptly intervene by apprehending all those involved in the murder of Osagie and ensure justice is served.
Responding, the Edo NUJ Chairman, Festus Alenkhe assured that journalists in the state will investigate appropriately, and report the issue to ensure that justice is served.
