The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Honourable Desmond Enabulele, has expressed strong confidence in Team Edo’s readiness for the 2024 National Sports Festival, which begins on May 16, 2025, in Ogun State.
Speaking after inspecting a series of training sessions and selection trials held by various sports associations across centres in Benin City, Enabulele said the level of preparation and commitment shown by Edo athletes is commendable.
In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, the Sports Commission boss reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring a stellar performance by Team Edo at the national event.
“In a bid to enhance the training of our athletes, boost their morale, and further motivate our coaches ahead of the National Sports Festival, I observed several trials conducted by our sports associations. The level of intensity and focus I witnessed gives me great confidence,” Enabulele said.
He praised the athletes and coaching crew for their resilience and work ethic, noting that their performance so far indicates that the team is on track for a successful outing.
“I am very impressed with Team Edo’s preparations. With this momentum, we are poised for victory,” he stated.
The Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for sports development, emphasizing the state's focus on excellence and grassroots talent discovery.
“Our strategy remains anchored on grassroots empowerment and sustainable development. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence and proudly represent Edo State at the National Sports Festival,” Enabulele concluded.
The 2024 National Sports Festival, widely regarded as Nigeria’s version of the Olympics, will feature athletes from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory competing in 33 sporting events.
