APC Convention Showcases Party Unity, Democratic Process — Edo Chapter

By Israel Adebiyi

The All Progressives Congress has described its just-concluded National Convention as a defining moment for party unity, internal democracy and national renewal, following a two-day gathering of stakeholders in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Edo State chapter, the party said the convention, held between March 27 and 28 at Eagle Square, brought together top party leaders, stakeholders and delegates from across the country in what it termed a well-coordinated and transparent democratic exercise.

According to the statement signed by State Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, the proceedings were anchored on the principle of affirmation, which was communicated ahead of time to accredited delegates. He noted that the process reflected the party’s commitment to inclusivity, cohesion and integrity.

The party explained that prior to the convention, state executive committees from 36 states were reviewed, with Ekiti State and Osun State excluded in line with existing party decisions and electoral considerations.

Delegates at the convention unanimously affirmed national officers to steer the affairs of the party, a development the APC said demonstrated the confidence reposed in its leadership and its commitment to strengthening internal democracy.

Describing the gathering as one of the most peaceful and well-organised political conventions in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa, the party noted that the exercise was conducted without rancour or intimidation.

The statement also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as his leadership and commitment to repositioning the party through his Renewed Hope Agenda. It added that the APC currently controls 32 states, which it said reflects growing public confidence in the party’s governance philosophy.

The Edo APC further maintained that reforms being implemented under the current administration were already yielding results, despite prevailing economic and security challenges. It argued that such challenges were not unique to Nigeria but part of broader global realities.

While urging party members and Nigerians to remain committed to democratic ideals, the party called on governments at all levels to continue promoting peace, unity and national development.

It expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger, urging citizens to support ongoing efforts aimed at building a more prosperous nation.
