No fewer than three persons have been hospitalized at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) following an explosion that occurred at NIPCO Compress Natural Gas Filling Station in Eayean, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.
Super FM Correspondent, Kenneth Okunbor reports that a source at the CNG filling station said the explosion was because of the fake Chinese conversion kits and substandard cylinder used in the installation of an Audi 80 salon car.
According to the source which pleaded not to be named, the driver of the car and the technician who installed the CNG kits in the vehicle had driven to the filling station to test the efficacy of the installation when the explosion occurred.
The source said many Nigerians have resulted to patronizing roadside technicians because of the high cost of conversion which ranges between 620,000 naira for carburetor cars and 650,000 naira for injector cars.
The hospitalized victims included a passenger in another vehicle, a pump attendant and another staff of the station, while a nurse at the facility who also took a hit, has since been discharged.
The roadside technician who reported himself to the police also led a team of officers to the scene of the accident.
