The Edo State Government has begun paying the 70,000 naira new minimum wage to workers in the state.
This is in fulfillment of the promise to increase the minimum wage from May 2024.
During the recent inauguration of the Labour House in Benin City, Governor Godwin Obaseki announced the increase of the minimum wage for workers in the state from 40,000 naira to 70,000 naira to cushion the impacts of the harsh economy on the people of the state.
In a statement, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said the payment of the 70,000 naira minimum wage to the workers further demonstrates the commitment of the Obaseki-led administration to the welfare of Edo workers.
The commissioner urged workers to be committed to their duties, while contributing effectively to ensuring the governor’s administration ends on a good note, and to reciprocate the gesture by the state government to their welfare.
