Students of the University of Benin are still recounting their losses following a midday fire incident at a female students’ hotel at the Ekehuan campus which destroyed some documents and properties at the university.
Although most of those who spoke to Super FM’s Morris Osumili refused to be recorded on tape because of the institution’s policy, they however expressed concerns that properties and vital documents were destroyed in the inferno.
The eyewitnesses gave different accounts of how the fire started, some blaming it on a surge from an electric cooker, popularly known as ‘hot plate’ that one of the female students was using.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, declined comment.
