The Edo State Government has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the brutal murder of two young men, Eboh Enomwa and Stephen Imaghodo, in Iyanomo Community, promising to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The investigation, led by the Edo State Special Security Squad, codenamed “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” is being conducted in collaboration with security agencies and local community leaders.
The government’s response follows a deadly clash in Iyanomo, reportedly sparked by a leadership dispute between rival factions, which escalated into violence and claimed the lives of the two victims.
The investigative team, headed by CSP Osaro Roberts, Chief Security Officer to the Government House, and Okoh Saturday, Principal Security Officer to the Governor, visited the community over the weekend to assess the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Speaking to residents, Barrister John Izegaebe, Secretary of the Special Security Squad, condemned the violence and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to eradicating cultism, kidnapping, and communal clashes.
“Our preliminary findings suggest a leadership tussle fueled the violence that led to these tragic deaths. This is unacceptable,” Izegaebe stated.
“Governor Monday Okpebholo has directed us to ensure that all culprits are identified, arrested, and prosecuted. No one is above the law.”
Izegaebe extended condolences to the victims’ families, assuring them of justice, while issuing a stern warning to community leaders to resolve disputes legally.
“Governor Okpebholo has zero tolerance for crime. Those who foment unrest in Edo communities will face the full wrath of the law,” he added.
The Iyanomo community welcomed the government’s swift action, expressing gratitude for the intervention and appealing for sustained security presence to prevent further violence and restore lasting peace.
The Edo State Government has pledged a thorough and impartial investigation, vowing that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible—regardless of their status—to justice.
The operation underscores the state’s broader campaign to curb crime and ensure safety across Edo communities.
