The All Progressives Congress in Edo State has described the recently launched Feed the Hungry Initiative of the Governor Godwin Obaseki as another ill thought out programme intended to siphon the states resources.
Recall that Governor Godwin Obaseki had on Friday, March 8, 2024 launched the Feed the Hungry Initiative pledging the sum of one billion naira monthly to the project.
The Edo APC Publicity Secretary, Barrister Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, in an exclusive chat with Super FM, queried the statistics and database the governor relied on to determine the number of hungry people in the state.
Barrister Igbinigie wondered how a Governor that failed to show justification for palliatives made available by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of the harsh economy situation suddenly finds its courage to launch such a programme.
The opposition party also questioned why the governor is hasty to appropriate one billion naira to a project that does not enjoy legislative backing insisting that the move remains a plot to mobilize funds for his anointed candidate and party ahead of the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled to hold in September 2024.
It urged Edo people to beware of the antics of the Governor who is at the twilight of his administration but remains bent on deploying state resources to what it described as phantom projects.
It equally urged the governor to focus on providing good governance to Edo people rather than making empty promises that cannot be backed up by logic.
