The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of one soldier and another wounded by suspected armed herdsmen at a village in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State where troops have been deployed to keep the peace over persistent attacks in the area.
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) Major General Sunday Igbinomwanhia confirmed this to newsmen.
He said the troops in response killed three and injured several of the herdsmen, adding that one AK-47 and rounds of ammunition were recovered from them.
He also intimated that OPWS is carrying out a clearance operation to flush out suspected armed foreign herders who have invaded the Kwande Local Government Area of the state where many villagers had been killed over the weekend.
