Edo NUJ Suspends Journalists Boycott of APC Activities

The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has put on hold his directive asking its members to boycott the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Recall that the Council had directed its members to boycott all APC activities following the expiration of a seven day ultimatum given to the party to tender an unreserved apology to members of the union and journalists who were assaulted at the botched February 17, APC primaries in Benin.

Reading the resolution of the NUJ Congress at the Press Centre in Benin, Edo NUJ Chairman, Festus Alenkhe said the boycott was put on hold following a letter of apology by the APC and another letter of commitment pledging to replace all gadgets and personal assets of journalists destroyed during the primaries.

Alenkhe said: “Base on these letters of apology and commitment to replace all damaged items, Congress has therefore today resolved that the decision to boycott all activities of the APC is therefore put on hold.

“And we also agreed that between now and 16th of March 2024, the APC in Edo State has also agreed to replace all equipment belonging to the 10 journalists who were attacked. Failure to do so before this date will make us to convene an emergency congress and take decision on the matter.

“… for now, I want to implore all journalists in Edo State to continue to cover APC activities in Edo State.”
