The Edo State government has suspended local government councils from collecting tax from mobile money and bank agents in the state, pending a discussion after Saturday Local Government Election.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Andrew Okungbowa, revealed this during a peaceful rally by the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, in Benin City.
The Vice President, Juliet Madueke and Public Relations Officer of the association, Collins Odiase told Super FM that the rally was to draw the attention of the government to the issue of double taxation by the local government officials, and indiscriminate issuance of POS terminals to unprofiled individuals.
Earlier, at the Edo State House of Assembly, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Ivy Adodo, said the House is on recess, but the petition of the group will be submitted and acted upon when the lawmakers resume.
