The Edo State House of Assembly has resolved that the commissioner for gender and social welfare and commissioner for health should appear before the house standing committee on women affairs and committee on health to defend the policy on social welfare arrangements of the state for the destitute.
This followed a motion moved by the member representing Ovia North-East constituency two, Honourable Uzamere Edobor calling on the ministry to clear the city centres of destitute and lunatics.
He said the city centres have been defaced with the massive presence of destitute and lunatics, as most of them were deserted in Edo State from other states and other Countries.
Other lawmakers who added their voices said the motion was apt as some of the destitute and lunatics are posing criminal threats and social disturbances in the metropolis.
