Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has defended the invitation of inactive players into the camp of the Super Eagles ahead of this Friday's CAF 2023 African Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea Bissau, Superfm Sports can report.
Peseiro released 23-man list which includes some players who have not been in action for their respective clubs in their recent games.
Responding to questions after their first training session in Abuja on Monday night, Peseiro said those invited are the best legs for Nigeria adding that he invited players that he believed can deliver the results he wanted.
"For me, I prefer to choose the best players. Though, they may not have more playing time but for me, the best player is the best player. He told BSN Sports at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja.
"If they are not given chance to play in their clubs, it's my obligation and responsibility to call them because I believe in them. If I believe in you to deliver for me, there is no problem if I invite such player. If they are injured it's different.
He added, "I have contact with them and their coaches and I ask their coaches if they're fit and they said, yes. If their coach said they are fit and didn't tell me that their performance have declined but they decided to choose other players over them. There's nothing wrong inviting such players.
Joe Aribo, Wilfred Ndidi, Kenneth Omeruo, Paul Onuachu are some of the Invited players that have not been playing regularly for their clubs.
Nigeria will trade tackles with Guinea Bissau on Friday at 5:00pm at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja with the return leg holding on next Monday.
Nigeria are topping the group A table with 6 points from two games closely followed by Guinea Bissau who have garnered 4 points.
